Get a feel for the scale
A whale and a plane. A country and an island. Use a familiar measurement to size up something less familiar, then discover how the real dimensions compare. Every reveal includes a source and a note about what was measured.
How do I play?
Compare the target on the right with the known object on the left. Drag the corner or use the ruler to resize it, then lock in your guess. After each reveal, the solid outline shows the real size and the dashed outline keeps your guess. Finish five rounds and deal another run whenever you like.
How does scoring work?
A ratio error of 1.05 or less scores 100. A ratio error of 4 or more scores zero; intermediate guesses follow a smooth logarithmic curve. Twice as big and half as big earn the same score. Our rounds use multipliers of ×1, ×1, ×2, ×3 and ×3, for 1,000 points in a perfect run.
Is this the official daily Size It Up?
This is an independent unlimited game with its own catalog and scoring. It is not affiliated with Magnitudle or Play Daily. The official regular daily game has five different rounds worth up to 500 points; use our daily answer guide for those measurements.
What can I compare?
Choose a mix, countries and states, or things and space. The catalog includes 326 objects with attributed measurements: places, planets, landmarks, vehicles, animals and sports courts. Geographic outlines use public-domain boundaries; other silhouettes are original simplified illustrations.
How are geographic areas drawn?
Places use a local equal-area projection and share a physical area scale. Twice the visual size represents four times the area. Remote territories may be arranged as compact insets without changing their area scale. Areas are approximate values calculated from simplified boundaries, not official land-area statistics.
Can I play on mobile or with a keyboard?
Yes. Drag the corner handle, move the slider or use the arrow keys. Zoom and pan change only your view. Switch between metric and imperial display units whenever you like.
Can I resume after refreshing?
Your unfinished run, preferences and best score are saved in this browser when storage is available. Press Resume on the start screen after a refresh. You can still play when storage is blocked.
